The two-dollar denomination in the silver certificate series was printed in 1890, featuring James McPherson. Two-dollar Treasury or "Coin Notes" were issued for government purchases of silver bullion from the silver mining industry. The note features General McPherson and the notes are often called McPhersons. James Birdseye McPherson was a career United States Army officer who served as a general in the Union Army during the American Civil War. The artists of the Merrick Mint have used an advanced technology over this modern uncirculated United States $2 bill, enhancing it with images from the 1890 James McPherson $2 Banknote, to create a collectible work of art.
